My fledgling practice as an artist is the antithesis of my many years of work as a professional graphic designer. Releasing myself from the restrictions of client briefs and defined outcomes, has unleashed a tide of previously untapped creative drive and energy.
Where previously I was an expert in total control, I now work in a completely liberated manner. My figurative pieces are raw, honest responses to thoughts, ideas and observations and I embrace all outcomes, materials and media to freely allow each piece to develop. My deliberately unselfconscious drawings are the starting point from which the lifecycle of each artwork begins. Core to my practice is that I strive to retain in the final sculptures, the same nuances that created character in the initial drawings, regardless of the final scale or materials. The resulting pieces have a natural, unmanufactured presence and character to which the audience responds.
